Have you ever wondered how in the face of a catastrophe the people you think are so strong recoil in fear while those who seem to be weak in your eyes stand to meet the challenge? I have heard it said courage is not the absence of fear; but, facing the problem in spite of fear. For many of us fear is crippling; it can cause us to forget who’s we are, who our Father is, and the blood that flows through our veins.
I’ve also heard it said pain is an equalizer, I’m sure this is a phrase you’ve also heard. For many years this phrase confused me then I realized pain places everyone on the same level; it doesn’t care if you are rich or poor, what your status may be, or your background; it is humanity’s common denominator. We must each choose how we allow it to define who we are. Life is an elevator of ups and downs.
We experience sunshine and rain as well as joy and pain; there are times on this journey of life the rain and pain seem to consume us both physically and mentally. It is during those times we need to collapse in the arms of the Great Physician. He who heals the broken hearted and binds up our wounds stands ready to give us peace during the pain and strength to preserve. In life we will experience many types of pain.
When we look in the face of pain there are lessons to be gained, we learn empathy for others, we discover inner resilience and learn to trust God’s purpose in our pain. God sees the end from the beginning and He knows just what each one of us needs to bring us into alignment with His transforming love. We must yield our will to Him and trust the process.
