music in my soul

Every now and then a song pops into my mind and I find myself humming it or singing it most of the day; sometimes its from way back in my past or something I recently heard on the radio. Music has a way of changing our mood, it makes us happy and it can make us sad. It reminds us of love lost and found, it inspires us to move and to share our joy.

Music permeates every culture in our world today, they each have their own songs both old and new. In the word of God we find many references to music; when Gods people crossed the Red Sea on dry land and the army chasing them was destroyed, they sang a song of deliverance. The people sang of David’s victories when he returned from battle, music was used to calm Saul when he was vexed by evil spirits.

The walls of Jericho fell at the blowing of the trumpets, Solomon honored God with a great celebration at the completion of the temple and the Angels filled the sky with song when the birth of Christ was announced, setting in motion the plan of salvation for man. Psalm9:1-2 states “I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done. I will be filled with joy because of you. I will sing praises to your name, O Most High.”

Ephesians 5: 19-20 states “Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts.” ” and give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” As children of the Most High we should have music in our souls, the love and grace granted to us each day should create a joyful song to be sung to all we meet. Jesus is the love song we should be singing to a lost and languishing world.

It is said ” all heaven rejoices when one sinner comes back to the love of Christ.” If for any reason you have forgotten or lost the music in your soul, seek the face of love and be restored.
